This is very nice and informative post. I have bookmarked your site in order to find out your post in the future.
Events: Online and Offline
All of the events that have occurred will be recorded on this page, with a short description of each. Most of the events I have been able to write up, but I wasn’t around for some of the earlier events, or unable to attend. The full write ups of the events that I have been able to write up are linked to at the beginning of the bullet point, just click the title of the event to be taken to it. All the links open in a new window.
- Clapham Event - short description to follow
- Cubefest 2005 - a gathering thought up by the players, with Mind Candy attending. I am told that it had lots of drink and fun, and if you attended you got a “Cubefart 05″ t-shirt and various goodies.
- PCAG - Known as the Perplex City Academy Games. This was held in February 2006 and unfortunately I only found out about the the day before it happened, so was unable to attend. Apparently it involved wandering around London and solving various puzzles, which you gained points for. The top three teams with the most points gained the honour of travelling on the London Eye, where they saw a Morse message being relayed to them. Sadly we never found what the message said, and apparently Mind Candy do not remember!
- San Francisco - This was the first international event, and a BIG one too. It was similar to PCAG if I remember correctly as a lot of people were randomly wandering on the ground solving puzzles, but they also combined this with an online event, so that those unable to attend were able to solve other puzzles online to help those on the ground. It was an absolutely manic event, and sadly not one of the best, but it was made better by the 3P helicopters and the random phone calls that those at the San Francisco event received! Please click the link to read the full version of my write up about the online event.
- Wave 4 Launch - This was July 2006, and sadly I was unable to attend this one so I do not know many details of the event at all. Please email me if you know what happened at this event so I can add it! ( silentlybroken.x[splat]gmail[dot]com )
- Crane Drop - In memory of Anna Heath, one of the members of the Cube Retrieval Team, who was brutally murdered, the members of the community decided it would be a nice way to show our sadness at this unhappy event by making 333 origami cranes and dropping them off at Mind Candy in a huge box which Izzy wrapped to look like a present. There were a few of us there and apparently it was a huge surprise to Mind Candy! I’ve written a full account on the main part of my blog, click the link to read.
- Cubefest 06 - After the success of the first Cubefest, it was decided that another would be organised, and this time I was able to attend! There was drinking, fun and games, and prize giving. As with most of the events, a full account is in my blog, please click the link to read.
- Receda’s Revenge 2 - This was an amazing event, one of the best that Mind Candy have perpetrated yet. It involved a lot of interactivity through drawing, text and sound. Not to mention the fact that it was hilarious! The full account is in my blog, just click the link to read, there are pictures to go with it!
- Ascendancy Point Raid: Operation Bayonet - The last online event to take place during Season 1 of Perplex City. It was one of the most important also, as the aim was to rescue Scarlett, and, well beat the 3P. The full guide and pictures are on the blog, just click the link.
- Perplex City visits Hamleys - Not an event really, but Perplex City could be found in Hamleys Toy Store from 10th-18th February where they were handing out special edition Hamley’s Cards, and various promos of Season 2 cards. They had two stalls, one for general enquiries and the other with a board game set up, where you could be asked a question and if you got it correct they gave you a free pack of cards. The full information is on my blog, just click the link at the beginning of this bullet point as usual.
- Applied IRC Q&A Chat: Rand0m Interview - This was held on the 19th February 2006, and was a question and answer session with Rand0m, the guy that found the Cube. The edited logs are found on my blog, just click the link at the beginning of this bullet point, bearing in mind that it was an hour and a half long, so the post is rather long!
- Applied IRC Q&A Chat: Mind Candy Interviewed - This was the second part of the Q&A chats, held on the 20th February 2006. It was a question and answer session with 7 members of Mind Candy. The logs are found on my blog, just click the title of the event at the beginning of this bullet point. Bear in mind that this was a 2 hour session, with a lot of people talking, so it is VERY long.
- End of Season 1 Party - A fun filled party with the Cube on display, goodie bags, cupcakes, Ceretin, competitions and speeches. Not to forget the copious amounts of drinks, with cocktails cleverly named in game of course. Full write up linked in the title.
- Season 2 Launch - Arather manic launch of the new Season, with the traditional website bugs and overexcitement. The write up is split in two, the more annoyed 2nd part is here.
If there is any information that you think I have missed out, or any events that I haven’t added to this list, please feel free to email me. I am happy to add in any additional information or correct any information I have added incorrectly.
